Thin silver wire, like fuse wire, twisted round a nail for about an inch then glued onto a terrain base looked good for me. Dab some rust coloured paint for a used look.

Can also mount, say, 3 rolls together, 2 on the bottom, 1 on top for a big pile.

For 6mm scale, We do simple making of, but We did as you describe for bigger scale, 15mm and 28mm:

You're welcome. The figures are Baccus, yes. WW1 British Middle East and Australian Light Horse. We use Great War Spearhead II rules.

One day we will put on a big game in the museum at Meaux. The grandchildren can visit Disney ;-)
