Again not bad. I am surprise and elated that this is turning into a military history of the Revolution. Having said that, the Battle of Princeton was left out. The whole "we will bag the old fox in the morning" was left out, again disappointing. So far not learning anything I didn't already know. |

I'm suspecting that Princeton will start the Year of the Hangman. The fascinating thing was seeing the wooded terrain on Long Island, and the "passes" on Long Island. I'm now inspired to watch The Crossing. |

I will be disappointed if they don't back up when they shift to the southern campaigns and talk about the battle of Moore's Creek Bridge. That seemed to take the starch out of the Tory movement in the Carolinas and beyond. Plus, how not to talk about Flora Macdonald? It's been engaging, altho' I do get weary of the patented Ken Burns documentary style -- endless recitations from letters read Very Seriously while a fiddle scrapes away and a piano tinkles. Very Serious Historians talking with their heads. And why are so many reenactor shots photographed with everything above the chest cropped out? |

I think they are beyond Princeton. The preview shows they will do GermanTown next. The Crossing for me doesn't hold up. The onion dome churches in Trenton and no snow let alone a blizzard. It didn't age well. It looks low budget and cheap. This is the first time Ken Burns has included reenactors and he doesn't like to use them. But with no photos or film he felt he had to just for filler. So don't expect anything other than blurry closeups. I still would have liked to have seen or at least mention the debate over independence in Congress. Didn't even show the signing. I don't know how you explain the vote for independence without the "The Olive Branch Proposal" it's kind of a big deal. It's a military history that leaves out Princeton, Second Trenton and Cornwallis. Still worth watching though. |

I have not been able to watch it yet. I am recording it, although I suspect I will buy the disc set when available, as I usually do. I am not expecting to really learn much. More like I expect to be reminded of things and see what all the people who are not into history will be learning. And yes, I may pop in my The Crossing disc and enjoy again. |

"I am not expecting to really learn much." True. It's like hearing a familiar story. TMP AWI experts will learn little new. Nice scenery, and it's fun trying to figure out who the voices are. I will bet a purse if guineas that Princeton leads off Episode 3. |

For those interested in the "cast" of voice actors, go here: link Episode 4 begins in January 1777. I think my bet is safe. 😄 |

I never read or studied much about the AWI so it is a fair snippet of information to me to open with. I could really do without the soundtrack trying to intimidate one into suicide though. |

No voice overs by Sam kinison or Henry kissinger? |
