There is one guy who called me a liar because I said that Tesla battery fires were impossible to extinguish. Wrong. They're just very difficult to extinguish with "normal" apparatus. Then he kept calling me a liar. I call him a pedant who loves to use Big Words. 🤷🙄

Another guy seems determined to give dumb suggestions to my Poll Suggestions, going so far as to invent new definitions of English words. Hes usually incoherent.

I used to argue with them. Then I remembered the Stifle function. Life is more relaxed. Sometimes I will unstifke, just to see if they are making sense. Nope. So I stifle again.

On another note, I hand out Good Trader ticks to people I get along with. "I agree with the OFM" is enough. As they used to say, That and a dollar will get you a cup of coffee."

NOTE: I did not name any names!!!

I have stifled some of the more opinionated or offensive folk here and I agree, life is much calmer and better.

HI John,
I agree, I have stifled a couple myself (Note: If it weren't for Archie Bunker I wouldn't know what that word means).
By the way – you aren't one of them.
One thing I do. I do most of my TMP work on a lap top where I am signed in. I sometimes use my phone, where I am not signed in – that way I can see some of those posts if I want, without having to sign in and out all the time.

I've stifled a couple.

One was a fellow who used to be very prevalent here, who "accused me of wanting to see kids in schoolyard kill each other". I stifled him here, and blocked him on FB.

The second was someone here who was always bemoaning his fate, but everything that happened to him was always "Somebody else's fault", and any time someone offered a suggestion, he always responded with "I can't…"
I did the same to him when he openly lied about me on something.

No loss to me about either of them.

I temporarily stifled someone who was making me angry, but is now unstifled as they seem to have mellowed. I still have 1 stifle and Ignore. It really makes the world a happier place having these functions!

Andrew Walters06 Nov 2025 11:32 a.m. PST

If you're going to survive in the world you need good ignoring skills. Stifling is a crutch!

You can't stifle in the real world. Walk into a waiting room, daytime talk show is on. Bumper stickers. Talk radio, people waving signs, the proverbial uncle at Thanksgiving.

In the modern world it's essential to be able to see and hear garbage and not let it affect you.

Stifling is probably a good feature, overall, but I don't use it. There are certain user names that cause me to skip a post, but I can do that on my own.

Stifle and ignore, then chill. Much better.

Choctaw06 Nov 2025 12:46 p.m. PST

An internet forum about toy soldiers for grown men is hardly the real world. There is absolutely no reason to be annoyed by any forum poster, anywhere. The real world is bad enough.

Very Very difficult to extinguish Tesla car battery fires as you cannot get water into the actual battery to cool them down as cells are tightly packed.

It's an exothermic oxidation (all fire are) but one that doesn't require oxygen or pyrolysis so smothering and cooling are pretty ineffective. Ignore the Tesla blanket idea as that is going to make a bad situation worse.

Large storage batteries are designed differently and you can get water in between the cells but the manufacturer actually wants you to cool surrounding batteries to prevent a cascade as the batteries start to fail when they get hot.

The Stifle is a thing of wonder. grin

I have stifled quite a lot of folk if they get political or post too much .
This works well for me. Thanks to Bill for this feature.

The Stifle is a thing of wonder.

I'm deliberately not choosing to name those who have earned that honor. That would be … unseemly.
Let them ponder why I don't rise to the bait anymore. The descriptions should be obvious, though. 🙄

Maybe they stifled you…? 😁

I have and will continue to use both stifle and ignore. As stated this isn't the real world but my time here is to be enjoyed and I just don't need the noise.

Maybe they stifled you…? 😁

Yeah there's always that.
