Hello, marketing question. Me and another guy have basically worked out a fairly simple, clean single battle combat system to resolve large battles quickly. Players have to make a few choices that affect the outcome like, overall battle tactic, how to use leaders each turn, how to set up starting troops etc, but nothing to complicated or involved. Besides the rules and some counters players would get a number of historical scenario's or be able to build an army for a what if. The system could be used for battles ranging from 1805-1865. Yes I know this has been done before. Basically this would be what I call a "filler" game, something two folks could set up and play very quickly. The original idea was that if there was support and interest for the system we would do a second supplement that would provide maps and short historical campaigns the players could do. Again, simple, can be resolved in one play session but would build on the basic combat resolution system. So…..this is my marketing question for you guys. Do you think a small game that just has the combat system with some historical battles is enough to draw interest and support OR do you think there would have to be some campaigns included to have enough "meat on the bone" to be of interest. I hope I am explaining what we have in mind, questions welcome. Thanks, happy gaming, look forward to all feed back! Travis. |

You may want to check out Pacific Sky Games: they publish games, assist in advertising them, formatting them for publication (soft cover only, color covers, B&W interiors, preferably up to 70 pages), POD. They pay the authors 60% of the publishing price, after subtracting the printing costs, while they keep the remaining 40%. The industry standard payment to authors is a straight up 3% of the cover price… I am working with them to re-publish my Army Men war game. Great people to work with. Cheers! |

This sounds similar to the 'Dominion of..' series of rules, but the addition of a simple campaign system would be a significant addition and bound to attract interest, IMHO. |

Thanks as always for all the input, hopefully get a few more opinions. So far it would seem some of you are saying the stand along battle as a starting point would work while arthur sounds like he feels i would need to go a step further and include at least on mini campaign to draw interest. Happy gaming, thanks!! |
