I continue playtesting a set of homegrown rules that I'm using for 15mm (reinforced) platoon-level solo gaming, which is built around element-based units vice the usual singly-based troops for platoon-level games, focused on the small unit leaders. I'm using the rules in conjunction with Joe Legan's "Platoon Forward" solo toolkit to handle the framework of the game (scenarios, table layout, enemy force generation and location, random events, character development).

In this scenario ("Exploitation"), the battalion has made a breakthrough and my platoon is being detached to go grab a target of opportunity, in this case a bridge. The Germans are aware and are rushing troops to the area, so time is of the essence. My platoon has been beefed up with an M-8 armored car, an M-10 tank destroyer, and the FO for an on-call battery of 105mm guns. The Germans; well, we won't know until we get on the table and start spotting them, then rolling up what they might be (in accordance with the tables in Platoon Forward).

The US column moves up the road towards the bridge, then Lt Hanley calls a halt; "let's let Recon go up and do their thing."

But the bad guys get the drop on'em!

Through pure grit and determination, elements of the platoon make it across the fire-swept bridge!

But can they hang on!!?? Well, you'll have to check the blog to find out ;)

That turned into a bit of a knife fight, Jack. As for the questio on HEAT rounds, while HEAT rounds were being used in WWII (bazookas, PIAT, Panzerfaust/schrek, etc), I don't think the 3" M3 in the M10, nor the Sherman 75mm, had HEAT ammo, mate. (Wiki says not, but..)

Interesting situation with the StuG and M-10. If both AFV were closed down (the StuG was) then it's possible they didn't see one another. It gives a reason for all the sighting rolls different rules impose on players.

Hey Javier, hope all is well! I told you I was working on batreps ;)

Dal – Yeah, it was pretty intense man, lots of fun. I know there were shaped charge weapons/ammo, but yeah, pretty sure no HEAT in WWII, just got carried away ;) I'm not too concerned about the Stug/Wolverine issue, I can't imagine it will happen regularly, and it's a feature of the rules (limited actions/reactions), not a bug, it just felt weird. I should have written something like "the Stug rolled into position at the perfect moment (while the M-10 was engaging the infantry on the hill), but the loader slammed his hand in the breech when slammed the AP round home and needed the driver's assistance to remove his mangled digits." ;)

But the fact is, the US commander (me) made a costly error in having the M-10 use its reaction on the hill, which the German commander (also me) took advantage of by pushing the Stug up even though he only had enough actions to move (but not shoot), knowing the M-10 would either act in his own turn, allowing the Stug to react fire, or would sit tight to avoid the Stug reacting, but would then still be sitting there when the German turn came back around.

I like how Nuts! handles that situation (with its "In-Sight Test"), but these rules are doing what I want them to do so I'm not going to be re-working the activation system just because of this issue.

When it's a solo game, mate, it's hard to shift the blame, innit? grin

I like knife-fight games. You're busier than a one-armed wallpaperer with a bad groin itch, and predictability is on holiday.

Most of my WWII mini's gaming has been WRG and BattleGroup, but I like deep-in-the-weeds tactical games. Your rules are right there, from the AAR's, and fit my 15mm WWII (though my mate's trying to talk me into 20mm/1:76 and Command Decision). Let me know when you decide to publish, please, Jack.
