"In the last few days the postman has rewarded me with the arrival of the late Quintin Barry's most recent title in his Franco-Prussian War series. Specifically, "The Campaign on the Loire 1870-1871: Orleans and Le Mans". The title is published by Helion and forms part of their growing "From Musket to Maxim" series. As is apparent from the title it considers the campaigns south of Paris after the collapse of the Second Empire. With Paris under siege the Government of National Defence assembled new armies in several parts of the country including the Loire. This newly raised army was soon engaged against the Prussians and Bavarians…"
