I got both my girls at the same time for an weekend for the first time in months. While there was still a lot of Uber-Dad moments, transporting them around as they visited old friends, we got some painting done, officially started up the new season of the pulp campaign (Tomb of the Serpent, coming soon!), and most importantly, we finally got our Halloween game in, using "Fistful of Gnomes" link

I don't think I've used that Godzilla toy since 1994…

🤣🤣🤣 Great 👍 👍👍👍👍

What a wonderful battle report and creative game scenario. Thank You Very Much for sharing, it was a hoot to read. I am definitely stealing some ideas to use in an upcoming holiday game. I am guessing you were using Fistful of Lead rules?

I am a huge fan of all things Gnome! I love it!

If you want to really dress up that Dragon, here is a link to my photo album demonstrating how I upgraded mine. It is easy, and the results are pretty good, IMO. I first tightened the screws, gently, then I filled the screw holes with White E6000 Glue. Once that fully dried, I used a throw-away school paint brush to apply a dark Minwax Urethane Stain color over the entire thing. Once that fully dried, I applied a matte clear coat spray, and I based it on MDF. I applied the Minwax to the white construction paper wings, which I glued in place with more E6000 Glue; I trimmed them on the model, adding some battle wounds by cutting small holes into them. Finally, I applied more White E6000 Glue along the tops of the bones, to make it look more realistic, applying a second coat of Minwax to add shadow to them, to blend them into the wings. I glued the feet of the Dragon to the MDF with more E6000 Glue. I brushed on PVA Glue in random patterns, pouring on colored mixtures of sand, letting the first application dry, following that up by painting more PVA Glue on the remaining open areas, applying different colored sands, to create the mottled ground appearance. This one was done in such a way as to be any chromatic Draco-Lich I needed, so no paint was added to it.

Here is a second Skeletal Dragon picture folder of a different Dragon model I did a year later. Same techniques, but I did add some paint to this one, making it a Red Draco-Lich. I also used red construction paper for the wings.

Since you and your daughters like Skeletons, I will share this idea with you, as well. I bought a bunch of 54mm-60mm Skeletons off of Amazon.com. I added paint to the non-bone bits, then I brushed on Minwax to these, as well: Skeletons album (two types: Egyptian, and non-Egyptian; I also did the same with 54mm Cave Men figures -- I got mine from Wal-Mart, years ago, but they're made by Tim-Mee Toy Company). Cheers!

Fitzovich: 100% Fistful of Lad. I'm glad you enjoyed it. Half the terrain will be reused for Christmas.

Sgt Slag: Your dragon and skeletons are top notch. I honestly was delighted just to have a reason to dust off mine. I have a giant skeletal frog that might need some mistletoe for Christmas.

Where did the dragon skeleton come from?

ViscountEric31 Oct 2025 9:41 a.m. PST

emkinney: I honestly don't remember. I honestly think I picked it up more than five years ago. Michaels? Rite Aid? I do have a skeletal frog from back then with the Rite Aid tag still on it.

I also realized for the first time ever that the frog lights up! Definitely looking into a swamp-centric Halloween game for next year.

I found mine at Menards, in successive years, during the Halloween season. I've also seen them at Michael's. Check any store that carries Halloween decorations. Cheers!
