You were asked – TMP link

I'm a huge fan of the late great Clancy Brothers. There's a great song about that handsome young lad, Roddy McCorley. He's about to be hanged. The incident takes place during the ‘98, the rebellion of 1798. The game would be called "Rescue Roddy McCorley". I have the Old Glory Pirate figure, "man walking the plank". His arms are bound to his side. He has a name now. 😄 I have no figures for the ‘98, but I have 1730 British Marines. So, I organized a game where his friends and lovely sister Claire organized a mob to rescue Roddy from his nasty executioners. In real life, they didn't get there in time. Nor in the song. But in the game he was rescued. The evil British didn't seem to mind all that much. I'm also painting up Rosa's Cantina and the Wicked Felina, for a game based on Marty Robbins' El Paso. I believe that has been mentioned a few times here. 🙄 So, I'm asking here if anyone has ever devised a game scenario based on a song?

I've played a game based on a song, ran the same game myself at a convention, and later wrote up the adventure for the old Fantasy Gamer magazine. grin Not a miniature game, though…

If you have any figure suggestions for Ghost Riders in the Sky, I'm all ears. Or eyes.

Sink the Bismarck, played that a couple of times.

The Hood found the Bismark and on that fatal day
The Bismark started firin' fifteen miles away
We gotta sink the Bismark was the battle sound
But when the smoke had cleared away the mighty Hood went down

I wrote some Napoleonic naval rules. Quite good really.

I called them … "When the balls whistle free."

An opening line from the operetta H.M.S Pinifore.

Shame my clubmates took exception to me singing it!

Well, I suppose your could set up a science fiction campaign based on some verse or another of "Never Set the Cat on Fire" but would there be any conceivable point to it?

Never based a scenario on a song, but did use Country Joe's "War" album as background music for a WWI skirmish.

"Had they all not stopped for lunch
And beer along the way!
That fine young man with the golden hair
Would be alive today!"

Now, doesn't that inspire you to put in a game???

I have as well and fully expect to do so again!

I'm currently painting figures right now for a game based on the song "Johnson's Motor Car" set in Ballyfeeney in 1921 Ireland…

Yes, John, I will bring it up to test drive it when I've finished the figures…

I'm thinking of gaming the battle of New Orleans…" In 1814 we took a little trip along with Colonel Jackson down the mighty Mississip"

Really, no one who sings as poorly as I do should even consider basing a game on a song.

Well, I think I can sing! Don't pay attention to those who have heard me! They're not trained listeners. The fools.
