"I came away from Napoleon, Ridley Scott's terrifically ahistorical reimagining of the eponymous French general's life and battlefield escapades, with questions. Most of them—well, pretty much all of them—pertained to its gazillion horses. So, so, so many horses. Maybe I had equines on my mind apropos of Ken's horse obsession in Barbie, but it's all I could think about. I had finally become a horse guy. Just like Napoleon.


Turns out it's a family affair. The many, many horses of Napoleon were provided by sibling horsemasters Camilla and Daniel Naprous of equestrian film and TV company The Devil's Horsemen. (Think of Daniel Kaluuya and Keke Palmer's characters in Nope, minus the ravenous alien ship.) The company was set up by Camilla and Daniel's dad Gerard in the early ‘70s, coming to provide equestri-actors for movies like 1987's The Princess Bride. Now the company averages around 30 productions a year, sometimes working on 6 or 7 at once…"
