Greetings all,

The miniatures group I belong to recently came into a large number of old painted and unpainted 25mm figures and I am looking for a set of rules. The figures range from the early Greek period through some of the Roman periods and into the later Byzantine periods along with some of their opponents. I am currently looking at To the Strongest! and Mortem (Renatio) et Gloriam as possible rules to use. Would anyone who has played either (or both) share what you like and don't like about those rules.

Thanks,

Paul

I very much enjoy To the Strongest. The use of a grid makes movement and shooting clear and quick; the order system works. I've read but haven't played MeG. It felt that it was more about card management, and not for me.

To the Strongest is a fantastic set of rules. Plays fast, is very engaging with lots of interesting decisions, and is also a pretty good simulation

Another vote for TtS. Very easy for noobs to grasp. Also works for large multi-player games. I have run it with as many as 8 players.

I have played TtS once at a con. I agree that it is a very easy game to pick up and that the grid system works well by taking away the need for measuring. I did find the game clunky in certain ways and the overall game play uninspiring but that was based on one game. Not really a fair assessment.

I picked up MeG. If you like games with lots of mechanisms and details it is probably a good one for you. We don't so we took a pass and settled on Sword and Spear.

I bought the MeG rules which uses special dice which I have been unable to find in the US for a couple years now. Other than I'm unable to play the game, it did look interesting.
