In general, for non—gaming entertainment or leisure time, do you prefer to read something or watch something— "Watching" meaning movies/tv shows/videos. |

Both. Watch to get an overview. Read to get an in depth understanding. |

For most of my life it was a fifty/fifty split. But in the past few years I'm mostly reading. It just seems movies, TV, and streaming are producing garbage. There is the occasional decent thing to watch, but for the most part, I'm reading now. |

It's hard to read a football game. But watching Penn State Saturday was …. not enjoyable. |

Are graphic novels more reading or more watching? |

Yes! But seriously I do spend a lot of time doing both. Although I am much more stimulated by reading. |

You know Parz, the problem people have with nutritional self-reporting is that on average, Americans won't admit to having eaten enough to stay alive. Pretty much the same in other Western societies. But doubtless this will be much more honest and informative than reading what they actually discuss. |

I used to be an avid reader, but over the last several years I have switched to audio books which allow me to do other things while (reading, listening, absorbing?) the book. The main exception is if I'm researching a particular topic. |

Will agree, most movies and shows on TV anymore are garbage. Occasionally a good one, but those are the exceptions. Prefer a good book. I love history, but you always know how those end. No matter how many times you read it, you know how Gettysburg and Chickamauga end. So prefer fiction of some sort, historical, fantasy, SF, action of some sort. |

Reading. Watching – live sports, live band, live performance, gallery. |

I paint while I watch TV. Kinda hard to read and paint at the same time… ;-) |

Robert: I have no doubt that people will report from the "sunny side." But who cares? It's a fun question. |

As long as you don't confuse it with evidence… |

Reading.I read fast so do not have patience for watching most wargaming videos. |
Martin Rapier | 06 Oct 2025 11:27 p.m. PST |
Both, although generally I read more books in a year than I watch films (I keep a diary of what I've read/seen). If I watch TV, it is generally quiz shows, dramas, murder mysteries or the odd comedy. |
The Last Conformist | 07 Oct 2025 2:11 a.m. PST |
Reading. If I'm watching something on the TV it's generally to keep my wife company, not because I'm intrinsically interested in it. I'm told that reading is much more mentally taxing than watching, but I can't feel it. |

Confuse the results of a voluntary poll with evidence … who would do that? |
x42brown | 07 Oct 2025 7:01 a.m. PST |
First choice is Audio book (Please add to Poll) followed by Reading Watching is a long way down x42 |

I've tried audio books, but I never like the person reading even those others have said are great. When painting figs, I either listen to podcasts or music. |
pmwalt | 07 Oct 2025 2:37 p.m. PST |
I'm good with either, but given time I prefer to read |
Old Contemptible | 07 Oct 2025 3:02 p.m. PST |
For entertainment both. Researching on the other hand, documentary films and reading. Which can also be entertaining. |
