And that is precisely why I am not optimistic and think that this is indeed the end.

SF!

When you wrote, "Presently, the situation doesn't sound very rational…" you recapitulated a previous observation.

Namely, "Finally, let's not forget that drowning people rarely have the clarity of mind to make decisions that actually benefit them in the long term. I don't and cannot speak for Christy, but I think there is an element of that in her… shall we say, "reluctance" to make the decisions those of us standing firmly on the beach can so clearly see."

I know it's poor form to quote oneself, but I think several of us on this thread and in this situation are seeing this as a recurring theme while waiting for the whole matter to sort itself out--if at all.

In the meantime we can continue to play the excellent 20th edition which is a fine game as is.

The 20th Anniversary Edition is, in fact, awesome.

If you have a copy. If you don't they go for $50 USD-80 online, which is crazy.

And if you didn't buy an expansion you wanted before things took a trip in a hand basket, well, good thing it's easy to make up your own numbers.

I wish I weren't on the far side of the country, there's not a lot a person can do to help. I put money down for the most recent edition, put money into the GoFundMe, but those are just drops in the bucket.

We wait and hope. And play with what we got.

One other thing we could do: there are a lot of gaming videos on YouTube. There's barely any content about TSATF. We should do some game videos to drum up interest, so if the game does become available for purchase there will be people to buy it other than those of us who already have a copy,

AW….I would wait until its published before I promote something that isn't available and might never be….

I see your point, Long Valley Gamer, but what's the harm in promoting a game that isn't going to evaporate altogether. Certainly not a game played non-stop for some 45 years!

I think Andrew has a capitol idea, there, as video versions of the classic "Chamla Valley Patrol" would be easy as pie, at least for those set up at all to record the game.

But, Lord Knows, there are so many "classic" TSATF scenarios out there, large and small, coming up with a project would require no stretch of mind or resources at all.

The current generation of small scale (not to say "Skirmish" level) rule sets--all of which bear the heavy influence of TSATF--can use some well meant competition on YouTube, etc.

Indeed, why not video larger games using "800 Fighting Englishmen?"

Just because there are new rule sets doesn't mean that Larry Brom's masterpiece is in any sense outdated or obsolescent.

It's a first class idea to remind contemporary audiences of how well TSATF brings home the bacon by showing them, and definitely better than just some of us Veterans beating our chests and/or gums about what they're missing.

Andrew! Good On You, Sir!

An excellent idea to promote TS&TF rules via demo games on YouTube (and elsewhere). I haven't the technical means to do so myself, but I'd certainly encourage those out there who can, to do so. Just remember to edit for conciseness and explain the rules clearly (voice-over narrative). I'd think a 15-minute clip of an illustrative game would be perfect.
