It's like watching a 45 year old guy opening Christmas presents. It's cute for a limited amount of time. "Awwwww…. Is there a football game on?" |

Yes. You're 50 years old, and there is no Santa. |

Yes. Watched one, it was enough. |

I usually watch the videos that do the unboxing of Victrix new releases, that's about it. |
ecaminis | 29 Sep 2025 8:40 a.m. PST |
never even seen one or heard off it |
Herkybird | 29 Sep 2025 8:51 a.m. PST |
I only watch them if its something I am considering buying, so you can get an idea what is on the sprue / figures before spending my dosh! |
20thmaine | 29 Sep 2025 8:51 a.m. PST |
Rarely watch them – just if I want to see what the components are like but the endless boredom of them… "I'm going to open this carefully, don't want to scratch the box" "What have we got? Looks like a rulebook" flicks through " pretty glossy" "And a board, that is pretty neat and yeah one, two, three four, umm, five sprues of figures. Nice mix of regular guys and some kind of ummm maybe undead, I'll look at those in detail later…." By which time Im falling asleep…. |

Yeah. I'll sometimes watch them for contents, but I keep fast-forwarding. |
Louis XIV | 29 Sep 2025 10:36 a.m. PST |
It depends on what is being unboxed and the stage talent of the person doing the unboxing |

95% of wargaming related videos bore me. 100% of podcasts bore me as well. I prefer reading over trying to pay attention to someone in those amateur formats. |
Silurian | 29 Sep 2025 11:26 a.m. PST |
Like Herkybird, I've watched a couple when considering a big purchase – and they've been useful, but oh my goodness, long-winded or what? |
John the OFM | 29 Sep 2025 11:36 a.m. PST |
Not everyone can sing, dance, act or direct and produce videos. |
Parzival | 29 Sep 2025 11:59 a.m. PST |
Yes. They're too long. Much better are some clear, static photos of the contents and a few explanatory sentences. I can read much faster than you can talk, and I am NOT wasting an hour or more of my life to see you babble incoherently about something I could ascertain in ten seconds or less of looking at a frickin' picture. |
20thmaine | 29 Sep 2025 12:40 p.m. PST |
Take your point John – but they can watch their own video before posting and ask themselves the question "Would I watch this?" |
Choctaw | 29 Sep 2025 1:41 p.m. PST |
If they get to the unboxing quickly then I can usually tough it out. |

No, I use them to prove I don't need the product. |

+1 to both Herkybird and Silurian. Otherwise, very rarely if ever. |
Cacadoress | 29 Sep 2025 4:08 p.m. PST |
Works when you have someone who knows something about what they're looking at. But look at this one for a Peninsular starter pack: link both seem relatively knowledgeable, but both skip over the elephant in the room: the box advertises contents that include the Union Brigade… which wasn't in the Peninsular. Sometimes unboxing videos are put out by retailers with a tendency to look over flaws. |

Generally, yes they are overwhelmingly boring and by people who have very poor "stage presence." If I watch them at all is to see the quality of the contents "live." I much prefer review videos, but only if the review actually tells you how to play/build etc. the product by someone who actually played or built the product. Really too many review videos/write ups by people who only read the product rules/brochure without actually playing with the item! |
Martin Rapier | 29 Sep 2025 11:46 p.m. PST |
Yes. I find wargaming videos in general are a mind numbing waste of time, even if you run them at double speed like the kids do. Some people seem to like this stuff though, so all power to them. |

I watch them, making judicious use of the FF button. I like seeing the products. I spent my High School days pouring over Dragon Magazine ads looking at products which I was interested in. Money was tight, so I had to be very careful with it. I want to see products, now, before I order them, especially if they're coming from across a ocean… YouTube is amazing in what it offers. The FF button is indispensable. Cheers! |

I watch them on occasion. I find myself jumping ahead in the vid – a lot – to the points/components I want info on. Good intentions but too much burbling and not enough focus/self-editing. |
