Early morning mist covers a valley on the Portuguese-Spanish border… Squads are sent in early to capture a key ford in order to protect the flank of their main forces (using skirmish rules). The two generals could choose certain entry to the battlefield from the ends of the table, or a more chancy circuitous route ending up close to the ford itself. Both players chose the latter and took their ammunition wagons and horse artillery. There's not much to show here as the French won the race and blocked the nearest approach to the ford with the result that the allied horse artillery and some other crucial equipment can't get on. All except for some Cacadore skirmishers which open upon a limbered French horse artillery crew. theminiaturespage.com

"TMP link In a deft tactical move, a French battalion moves closer to the farmhouse on the other side of the impetuous, and now blown British cavalry (in the centre); leaving it somewhat stuck, with enemies on three sides. |

Skirmisher fire disperses the French horse gunners and there's a musketry barrage on the distant French right wing. Under heavy fire, the French lose a battalion. theminiaturespage.com
"TMP link Meanwhile the isolated British dragoons in the centre get simultaneously charged by French Guard chasseurs cavalry to their front and an infantry battalion in their rear. They retreat with losses. theminiaturespage.com
