I think it is really interesting to think of the discussion about the contrast between the current trend for matt (with or without an "e") finish figures, trying to capture realism, against the traditional gloss finish of what are largely obsolete and, so unobtainable, models. The latter are so much more vibrant and, on a table at a distance, will just stand out brilliantly.
Then again, why do we chose the Napoleonic Era? The glamorous rig must have a lot to do with it. No one wants those occasional 1815 Prussian Landwehr in grey from head to toe, because it was all the poor devils could get before they were blown away or bayoneted.
I love the edge enhancement on these. The sheepskin shabraque dogs' tooth edging, the buttons, the lace on the dolman obviously….terrific.
Takes guts and then skill to show individual figures at this degree of magnification.
As one now forced to work at 20mm or 1/72, I can only say how I miss that challenge
A final thought. These gloss finish figures. How will they look 100 years from now, when the plastics have perished to dust and he paint all flaked off?
