Nuts! is a WWII skirmish game with a roll-playing component, especially designed for solo play. In addition to the three main scenario types (attack, defend & patrol), there is also a provision for smaller scenarios with a larger roll-playing component, they call "Chocolate & Cigarettes." These scenarios are to be played between the normal ones. This scenario finds our hero leading a small patrol (half his normal squad) behind enemy lines. He has found a wounded Finnish lieutenant (and an accompanying medic) who have been hiding behind enemy lines. The mission is to bring them safely back through enemy lines. Nice scenario and great figures and terrain. Joe |

Is PEF movement totally random, or are there some inputs like march towards the sound of the guns for aggressive PEFs, or maybe try to avoid the guns for small, demoralized groups, like your two lost Soviets? Grelber |

Is PEF movement totally random, or are there some inputs like march towards the sound of the guns for aggressive PEFs, or maybe try to avoid the guns for small, demoralized groups, like your two lost Soviets? Basically you roll 2D6 looking for D1-4 if you pass two: PEF moves 8" (ignore terrain movement limits) towards nearest friendly troops, ending in cover if possible (ending in cover being more important than the 8". So if a 6" move gets you behind cover, but 8" would be in the open, you would move 6") if you only pass one: Same as above, but only moving 4" Pass 0: remain in place There is a similar metric for revealed enemy forces. |

You can do PEF movement as random (roll 2d6 each turn to see if they move towards your units) as in core NUTS, or move PEFs like the Non-Player Enemy rules. In those rules the enemy side moves based on your Mission. Defense = PEFs move towards you, Attack = PEFs remain in place, Patrol = equal chance. |

I have been playing NUTs and FNG for years. It is very easy to modify the PEF rules for whatever works best for your scenario and tastes. Tom |
