I'm watching this now -- so far, it looks kind of cursory -- the Jacobite army of 1745 was only partially composed of "screaming" Highland clansmen. The Highlanders get all the attention but the Lowland volunteers and feudal levies raised along the Highland Line (e.g., the Atholl battalions) were as far from the clansmen of the Western Isles or deepest glens as the British Army soldiers. (plus, of course, many Scots were serving in those regular redcoat regiments). Maybe this will be addressed as the program continues. Many annoying commercials, ugh! |

Maybe, if I was 30 years younger, had some training, and was lucky. |

I mean, I watched it all and enjoyed it for what it was. The reenactor chaps involved all seemed very knowledgeable and engaged in their pursuits. That was all very instructive. Nice look at equipment and weaponry, hands-on. The armed clashes were a bit thin, given the small numbers of individuals involved -- but it seems churlish to critique on that basis alone, groups can't help being small. Budgets no doubt are limiting all around. I've seen a lot worse. |
