Let's imagine I own that pair of 6mm ACW armies with the infantry on 60mm frontages the Little Wars people used to refight Gettysburg. I'm actually pretty close. But for some reason I'm not thrilled by AoF. Is there any other rules set out there for the ACW in which each infantry base equals a brigade? I think maybe there was a V&B variant at one time? And Heaven knows you'd expect a DBA variant, but all I'm finding seems to be stand=regiment. Note I do not insist on 32 pages, glossy covers and a web site. Two or three pages in an old magazine would be fine. Thanks. |

There is a DBA variant for the civil war. I have it. |

DBACW is a stand equals 4-500 men and an inch is 100 paces. You could probably call it a brigade and get away with it. Volley and Bayonet will work. The rules cover a wide swath of time, so there are period specific rules within the larger framework of the set/s. There is the original V&B, and the subsequent edition, which is V&B: Road to Glory. There is a specific ACW scenario book, but you need the rules. |

Polemos ACW? It was Polemos and which brought me to he world those huge 60mm wide bases for 6mm in the first place. Horse, Foot and Guns covers the ACW among other things and is a rather more tailored DBA based set of rules. But the obvious one is Volley and Bayonet. You could make BBB work but you'd probably have to count each base as two elements or something. |

Thanks, Mike and Martin, for mentioning BBB. Robert, I know you're aware of the ruleset, but maybe you're not aware that it is possible to play BBB using unit bases. (I know, I've done it.) You just need some way to track strength and indicate formation. There are quite a few ACW scenarios readily available from the files of the BBB io group. (You do have to join the group to get access.) link |
