"Supposing that Britain negotiated a peace with France when it was at its height under the Bonapartist Regime (circa 1810); for the PoD, let's say Staps kills Napoleon in 1809, and the new governments (with Russian prodding) each seriously look at what an acceptable peace deal with the other would entail. To start, what would be the main issues needing to be resolved between them? Given those, what are some if the easier trade offs and concessions to predict, and what would the main sticking points be?…" More here

"..what would the main sticking points be?…" They're French, we're British. That's never going to work. |

Ah no, I don't know so. British and French worked together when it suited them, (WWI, WWII, Crimea, the Congress of Vienna) even if not always a very Cordiale Entente. Much discussion here already as to what would have happened if Napoleon had died on a battlefield and I have often asked what if Christopher Plummer had allowed the RHA occifer to "try a shot". I doubt we could add much to what is clearly a very authoritative discussion that follows on from the opening posting above. Well worth a read |
