This is sure to drum up some comments

To be fair, in Canada we have at least 3 statues of Louis Riel, who lead not one but rebellions against the Federal government

It's their monument; they can do what they want with it.

I agree completely!

As long as they aren't destroying it, moving it is fine.

Seems like a fairly reasonable compromise.

Guy Fawkes tried to blow up Parliament, and he gets his own holiday!

"Guy Fawkes tried to blow up Parliament, and he gets his own holiday"

I think will find that Guy Fawkes night celebrates the execution of the plotters. Throw the Catholics on the fire sort of thing…

And November 5th is not a public holiday.

I have always found the nightly bangs, explosions and sky rockets that occur for several days around that date reminiscent of the artillery barrages and star shells of the Western Front in the Great War and an ironic precursor to Remembrance Day on 11th November.

But King James I/VI could not have foreseen that.

As to rebels having monuments, there is a statue of Oliver Cromwell, who was proclaimed a traitor on the Restoration of King Charles II and whose body was disinterred and ritually dismembered, outside Parliament.
