Now that there is no more diminimus duty free orders, clearly I understand there is duty on purchases going into the US from other countries. What I'm not clear on is if there is duty on painting services. I'm putting together a batch of miniatures for Fernando Enterprises. I know that in most cases, duty is based on the invoice price. But in this case I'm not paying for the minitures, so I'm not sure how it works. Any one have any idea.

I just did a quick Google check. Says a 20% tariff on goods and services from Sri Lanka will take effect on Aug 7. But does say some items might be exempt due to other trade agreements in effect but doesn't give any details.

Also founds that Sri Lanka charges an 88% tariff on US goods.

20% versus 88% seems fair.

Honestly people. Stop believing propaganda. Sri Lanka has no tariffs on US goods. The 88% is a fiction. It is the ratio of exports to imports.

A quick search revealed that Sri Lanka has Customs Duty on imports (10 – 15%) Excise Duty (no figure listed), and Value Added Tax of 15%. There are also some miscellaneous other taxes listed. This according to the International Trade Administration site.

But your paying for a service. The figures are already bought and paid for. So how does a tariff work for a miniature painting service? Not just to Fernando but to the UK too.

I'd flick Fernando an email and ask him. I know in his FAQs he says to contact him before sending because they will send the forms for Sri Lankan customs.
