Would the PZIVD or PZIVE had Heat shells in North Africa in 1941-42?

Heat shells?

Probably.

There's lots of info on the web.

This page link covers all ammo types for the 75mm/L24 gun, including several HEAT rounds.

Ok yes, I'm aware of them being listed, question is were they actually available, issued, in use in that theatre? Sometimes shells are listed for a specific gun but either wern't available until a certain year or were rare in actuality circumstances.

Based on the AFV tables I made for my own rules many moons ago, I have HEAT listed as part of the ammo load-out for Pz IV E and F1, but not for D. I would have based that on some research, but after so long I'd struggle to readily produce that evidence.

I would have said heat was 1942. But I'm not sure.

I found this which helps with typical shell load-outs…about 3/4 down the page, table entitle Tank Guns

From the material presented in the thread so far, as well as my own prior understanding, I would suggest that a focus on the timeframe (and perhaps the theater of operation) will be more relevant than the specific Pz IV sub-model.

As in: whether we are looking at a Pz IVD, IVE or IVF matters little. The same ammunition types would probably have been issued to any Pz IV version with the Kw K (L24) at a given time in a given area of operation.

I might also add that the original question:
"Would the PZIVD or PZIVE had Heat shells …?"
might also be more valuable, for wargaming purposes, if we consider:
"What TYPE of HEAT shells would Pz IVD or Pz IVD have had?"

I say this because we can see armor penetration ratings more than double as we progress through the different versions of the HEAT rounds. So which HEAT round is an important consideration, or would be to me as a gamer.

Apart from the relatively modest effectiveness of earlier HEAT rounds (H1 and H1/A), I would suggest another important consideration from a wargaming perspective should be the difficulty of scoring a direct hit with a HEAT round at more than 500m on anything smaller than a barn, with such a low velocity gun.
