John John John "In a 7-4 vote, the divided court allowed the tariffs to remain in place through Oct. 14 to give the Trump administration a chance to file an appeal with the U.S. Supreme Court." You know the SC will uphold them. Don't get so excited. Look at all the other appeal courts rulings that have been shot down.

You can keep hoping, but so far his record in the Supreme Court has been about as successful as Tom Brady in Super Bowls. But even Tom lost occasionally. Oh and AI and the media sources exclaiming about this, will give the name and appointments of the minority judges, but NOT the majority. 🤔 But I did find this: "The majority — one Republican-appointed judge and six Democratic-appointed judges" |

Technically the Court did not find the tariffs per se illegal simply the ability of the President to use an Emergency Declaration to do so. The issue the Supreme Court can choose to intervene on by October 14 is does the President have the authority to broadly declare such an emergency and if such authority exists, how broadly can it be applied. The Court has a broad range of options including everything between choosing not to take the case right up to giving the President the full authority to impose all the tariffs or some limited measure in between. I'm certainly no authority on the Court but I believe simply assuming any specific outcome is inevitable is speculation at best. |

It was three last time I checked, EC. Wave a speaking fee in the air and count them when they show up. Won't take long. (Pay no attention to journalists babbling about the "Fourth Estate." People who think they're estates have to argue the point in Versailles, not the US.) I will make one prediction: the supplier I tried to order from at the start of this--the ones who came back THREE TIMES to ask me whether the stuff I ordered was what I really wanted--will find some way to stick me with the upcharge I was trying to avoid by an early order. No, I won't "name and shame." I've done business with them for a long time, and will again. Even if it weren't a long term relationship, I figure everyone's entitled to one screw-up. But a little quiet confidence in my ability to manage my own affairs would have been helpful this time. |

And just in! More for you to be excited about! "A federal appeals court on Friday blocked the Trump administration's plans to end protections for 600,000 people from Venezuela who have had permission to live and work in the United States. A three-judge panel of the 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in California upheld a lower court ruling that maintained temporary protected status, or TPS, for Venezuelans while the case proceeded through court."
But alas, CBS says the SCOTUS will probably overturn it. 😢 But hark!! You all still might overwork the SCOTUS justices and cause an early death. But you better hope it isn't one of your "loyal three". 😉 |

You and the rest know, all these tariff threads were started to bash Trump, his supporters and policies. The potential small increase in prices that will happen initially was just an excuse. No. They were started because miniature wargamers are inherently cheap. 😄 It's also a metaphor for how the tariffs will affect the economy as a whole. where were you when the Democrats lowered the taxing limits on eBay, Etsy and other sites to $600 USD USD? John it may surprise you. I watch none of those people, they are "news opinion" broadcasters. If you watch them, understand that going in. The only news opinion I watch on Fox with regularity is "The Five" (which always has a token liberal who actually disagrees, unlike the token conservative on the other channels 😉). I watch Fox in the morning, some of their noon show on occasions at lunch and I watch "Gutfeld" at 10pm for the humor. I use specific web news sites for my information and then compare them to what I see elsewhere and see who has been correct the majority of the time. I will also say, the outrages I see here on TMP are the same as those I hear on MSNBC and CNN daily. They are like talking points. 😉 |
Grattan54 | 30 Aug 2025 10:39 a.m. PST |
35th I have to disagree. On CNN they have a number of conservatives they go to. When any issue is discussed if it a two person panel they have a liberal and conservative. If it is four it is two liberals and two conservatives. I can think of at least six regular conservatives they have on CNN. Now MSNBC…that is a totally different matter. They have none. I also rarely see any liberals on FOX. They used to, but not anymore. Also, and the conservative views that conservatives make on TMP are not talking points? Please. I hear the same thing on FOX and NewsMax. |
Incavart77 | 30 Aug 2025 10:59 a.m. PST |
If every ruling against Trump is just ‘activist judges,' then apparently the only valid judiciary is one that rules in his favor. That's not law — that's monarchy. I'm certain those who love the Constitution all of time vs some of the time would agree. And, since January 20th 2025, the government has something like a 96% overall loss rate in the courts on policy/deregulatory cases which, for those who don't understand our legal system, is a true testimony to how awful and out of sync with our norms and laws their national approach is. |
35thOVI | 30 Aug 2025 11:08 a.m. PST |
Gratten, most of the conservatives I see on any of the Channels are conservative in name only, ie like those on "The View". There are a few, and better since CNN's ratings tanked and they have tried to bring a few on. The most annoying liberal, and she is a liberal on Fox, is Jessica Tarlov. Short of Fox and Newsmax (which I don't watch), there are no mainstream conservative media on the TV. And both Fox and Newmax are cable only. Unlike CBS, NBC, ABC and NPR. I really don't include Newsmax as they are not carried everywhere. So if you watch the others, you are getting the majority of "anti Trump" news only. If read the stats, those networks are dominated by liberals. |

There has been a judicial appointment war for years. The Democrats realized the power of controlling all courts with activist judicial appointments. Most appointments were not based on qualifications as much as race, gender and sexual preferences. Biden made that abundantly clear., nor tried to hide the fact. They make the attempt to hinder appointments of those who oppose their political agendas. I know you will disagree, but the stats verify that. When they need a discussion in their favor, they go directly to their pet courts, loaded with their nominees. Did you ever wonder why they went into hysterics when Trump got to appoint judges to the Supreme Court? Or why they forced a judge on the SC to resign under Biden? How about the threats to load the SC. The courts are their method to hold and change policies. God help us if they ever control the Presidency, Congress and the SC. "Since taking office for his second term, President Donald Trump (R) has nominated 24 individuals to federal judgeships on Article III courts. As of August 4, 2025, five of the nominees were confirmed. During his first term in office, President Donald Trump (R) nominated 274 individuals to federal judgeships. Trump made 245 judicial appointments.[1] Of those appointments, 234 were Article III judges.[2] Trump withdrew eight nominees and 143 received no vote from the Senate." … As opposed to "The total number of Article III judges nominated by Biden and confirmed by the United States Senate was 235, including one associate justice of the Supreme Court of the United States, 45 judges for the United States courts of appeals, 187 judges for the United States district courts and two judges for the United States Court of International Trade." |

since January 20th 2025, the government has something like a 96% overall loss rate in the courts on policy/deregulatory cases which, for those who don't understand No, they have more like a 96% WIN rate on appeals because what's happening is Lower Court-shopped Judges who ARE political, you can review who they are ya know, and these judges have been making broad, unprecedentedly intrusive rulings into Executive powers. Let's look at the DOGE program. Lawfully formed under the powers vested in the Executive and tasked with auditing Executive agencies and making recommendations. There's nothing unusual or new about Executive audits, except the speed and effectiveness of DOGE quickly revealed funny business. So the Democrats got an allied Judge to issue a ruling blocking the Executive Branch from auditing --- the Executive Branch! That's pure obstructionist overreach, and that's why the Higher Courts have been overturning your "96% win" cases, and why SCOTUS had started warning lower courts to stop ignoring their rulings, prior rulings, and the Constitution. |

Thank you for the proof that the current SCOTUS are his lackeys and lapdogs. When, not "if", they rule in his favor, it won't come as a shock. Yes, my glee will be short lived. That's okay. I've been disappointed by idiots in Da Gubmint for a long time. I'm not admitting I'm wrong, I'm ruefully admitting reality.
