Since there have been discussions lately about how much of the global wargaming market is in the USA, it seemed time to ask this question once again.

US. But surely this is a lot of trouble to avoid using the Member locator? In round numbers:
US 15K
UK 8K
Australia 1,500
Canada 1,500
New Zealand 400
France, Germany, Spain, the Netherlands, Belgium, Denmark, Ireland and Poland are all between 550 and 150. No one else makes three digits.

But we're an American, predominantly English-speaking site, and I'm pretty sure we skew old and historical.

I figure roughly equal numbers US, UK, Rest of World, and roughly equal numbers Games Workshop/everyone else. Guesswork, but as Hal Holbrook says, "we prefer to call it analysis." To actually know, a lot of people would have to share proprietary information--and even that wouldn't tell you how many people or small groups are home-casting figures and still playing "Little Wars" or CLS.

I live in the Sovereign State of Confusion, physically located in the United States, but dissociated therefrom. My realm consists of my roof and walls ensconsed in my cranium between my finger plugged ears.

Come get me when it's over…

Don't IP addresses tell you which country people are from? I automatically get that feedback monthly with my website.

robert piepenbrink Supporting Member of TMP30 Aug 2025 6:36 a.m. PST

Quiet, Mr. Tibbles. Bill doesn't want information: he wants a poll. (Query: if the Editor runs his own poll, does he give himself a month of free membership?)

I suppose someone should note that "percentage of miniature wargamers" doesn't necessarily correspond to "market share."

Thank you, Your Grace.

Or we could look at the Great Wargaming Survey--38% US and Canada, 31% UK and Ireland, 21% Continental Europe & Scandinavia, 9% Australia and New Zealand, 2% other. I'll stand by my division into rough thirds as about as good as we can do with the information available.

Hmph. About the "other." TMP has some listed for Afghanistan, and I doubt the locals play much with graven images, so presumably soldiers passing through--which means that in queries for just the right years, I'd have been South Korea (two years) and Germany (three.) Other high scorers also tend to export troops, so continental Europe and Other may be somewhat overrepresented in terms of national allegience as opposed to residency.

USA, The Midwest.
My neighbors are:
To the left of me: A guy with a mullet and a muscle car and no social manners.
To the right of me: A guy with dementia, memory loss, and a dying wife on home hospice.
Across the street from me: Large houses that have been turned into apartments in which various adventures are happening on an almost weekly basis now.
