You were asked – TMP link What sort of contests would you like to see (or participate in) at TMP? 13% said "terrain building contest" 11% [TIE] said "painting contest" OR "scenario design contest" OR "scratchbuilding contest" 7% said "ruleset reviews (best of)" OR "conversions contest" |

I suggest you make it easier to post pictures. 🤷 |

It would be very easy if TMP hosted pictures for you, but have you thought how much I would have to charge for that privilege? |
John the OFM | 27 Aug 2025 9:54 p.m. PST |
Then there's no point in entering any of those contests. 🤷 |

Agreed, John! Many here don't patronize FB where mine get posted to. So Bill thinks it's a privilege to allow pics for an entry to his contests? There has to be an easier way in 2025 to do it without "hosting" the jpgs I would hope…. link |

What John said. Other sites apparently manage to host people's photos for free. |

…and that thread got instantly and completely hijacked. I would definitely like to see more TMP contests of any kind. Terrain could be very fun, though I imagine the specifics matter a lot. As for the hijack, on the one hand I remember *decades* ago when you couldn't post pictures *at all* I argued that this is a visual hobby and we needed to be able to share pictures. Now at least it can be done, but it's much harder than, well, anywhere else. On the other hand, behind TMP is some old, old software that we are fettered to in perpetuity. My browsers are constantly warning me to beware visiting this site because it lacks https and they really get scared when I want to post with an insecure form. Several times I a week I week I have to click through the "Yes, I know it's a risky site but I really want to go there" warning box. Remember that a simple phone photo today is several megabytes. I don't think we're going to get that old software to let us upload a couple dozen images a day. Side note, my membership page says my first visit was 2004 but I'm pretty sure I visited TMP when I was working at a job I left in 2001. When was TMP founded? I'm not sure what's going on there. But I do look forward to the terrain building contest. With one thing and another I have an overlarge collection of polystyrene and I was thinking of building one of those fancy wire cutting tables. Let's get back on topic! |

Every. Time. I. Post.
And can I make that image *not* be six times larger than it was on my screen? No. Not without editing the image before I upload it to Imgur, etc, etc. But I would like to do the terrain contest. |

…and that thread got instantly and completely hijacked. Hijacked? Why, I used to be the leader of the "Visit the gift shop at Jose Martí airport for duty free rum and cigars!" guy. No. It's a simple suggestion. How am I supposed to enter a Best Painted Figure or Best Terrain contest if I can't post pictures from my cellphone? No, I don't have a blog. Nor am I on Facebook, Instagram or The Daily Worker. I guess I can describe, in text, what a good job I did on the frogging on the pelisse for the von Kleist Freikorps Hussars, but that seems kind of lame. |

Oh, it's simple. You just set up an account at Imgur.com, upload there, visit the image page, copy the image location via a right click, paste that in the TMP post editor, and then see if it worked – because someone may have changed something and now it doesn't work so you have to try it differently, and five minutes later your image is posted. Simple! I think some of the pages on TMP that describe how to include an image in your post are out of date. Certainly those pages have broken images, which is pretty ironic. Seems like the contest rules should include up to date image posting instructions, you know, for us old guys. And what would the rules be? Would it be genre specific? Or a specific feature that could occur in multiple settings? Is 3D printing allowed? I bet there will be some arguing about that. A particular scale or any scale? I hope the contest centers around something exotic but not too specific. |

When PhotoBucket went broken, a lot of images were expunged from TMP posts. That's what can happen when a picture host goes blooey. I've been using VGY.ME since those times -- still free and less hassle than PhotoBucket ever was. vgy.me |

Back in the day, I used Photobucket too. Then they demanded a small fortune for the privilege of hosting my pictures. I Noped right out of that. I'm on a few other sites that allow me to post pictures directly from my cellphone's Photo section. By the way, my Philadelphia Light Horse look really nice. Want me to describe them? I'm rather proud of the North Bridge from Thingsfromthebasement too. Let me tell you what it looks like! It looks really fine with some Foundry British LI on it! |

Aye. PhotoBucket keeps emailing me wanting me to "save my pictures" or log in to keep my account active -- but they won't even let me look at my old photos or even log in without giving them money first!! What a bunch of ripoff artists they became. |
