Some of my Secret Weapon washes are threatening to run out, and I can't buy new ones because they're not in production anymore. So I thought I'd figure out what were the closest equivalents from other brands, but none of the tables of equivalents I've found online list SW washes. Is there one I missing? Failing that, the two main ones I'm going to have and find replacements for are Flesh Wash and Stone. Anyone one got suggestions for replacements? (I've got flesh washes from several other brands, but they're all considerably redder.) |

I asked the same question a few years ago. here is the link to the discussion TMP link There is a link to the Dakka Dakka boards with recipes for all/most of the secret weapon washes. I have been making my own sepia wash since then with great results. Super easy to make. |

I could use Les' recipe, of course, but I bought the Secret Weapon ready-made version because I'd rather not. |

Search eBay. People put paints up for sale there all the time… |

I understand that you want pre-mixed washes, but you can make your own, in any colors needed,in a couple of ways: Magic Wash (using a close replacement to Future Floor Polish, large bottle is <$7, just add acrylic paint of the desired color), or oil paint washes (artist's oil paints, thinned with mineral spirits). There are videos on YouTube discussing oil washes. The old Magic Wash formula used Future Floor Polish, which has been discontinued, but you can use Quick Shine in its place. Once you find the correct mixture ratio, you can mix it up as needed, in any colors needed. Of course there is the original Dip Technique using any dark brown, or black, color of urethane stain. There are plenty of customizable, DIY options available. With the DIY methods, you will never be dependent upon any company's products… Cheers! |
