"It isn't often that the WHELKS travel up to Sheffield, So when Martin Rapier put on a Megablitz game of Operation Crusader in 15mm, it was not to be missed! I was given the plum rôle of Rommel, with Steve Churchus taking 55th Infantry Division (Savona) and Phil Steele taking 4th Indian Division.

The problem for anyone putting on a western desert game is that every Treadhead knows the history, and knows that the British lose by dispersing their armour. Consequently, they don't so every game ends in a cauldron as the British commander copies Rommel's trick of massing his armour together. I was very happy with the rest of my command team. Generale d'Armata Ettore Bastico was played by Tim Gow, who brought paper stick-on medals to award to the Italians. Most of them seemed to end up on his own chest…"
