Here are pics of my most recently completed Army, the Neo-Assyrians. It started when I bought a bunch of beautifully painted chariots from the TMP marketplace. Then I added some troops, painted some more and rebased everything. I don't have much for them to fight outside of my Medes from my Persian Army or maybe my Greeks if I want to go a bit ahistorical.

Great red/yellow shields on that heavy infantry.

They are nice but I can't take credit for those. They were in the army I bought with most of the chariots. Whoever painted those had some skills.

Where do you buy all these great armies???

I've been collecting them for 30 years or so and I usually collect them over time. So I'll be on the lookout for painted stuff that I can touch up, ink, and rebase to my standards, sometimes a single army will take me years to acquire before I finally sit down and finish it. As for good sources:
* TMP marketplace
* Lead Adventure forum
* Bartertown
* E-bay
* Hinds Figures
* Noble Knight Games
* Con Flea Markets
Of course, I also buy and paint figs myself, sometimes for whole armies, sometimes just bits to fill them out.

For me the key for my ancient's collection has been patience.

For this army I bought the core of it here on TMP probably 8 or 9 years ago because I just couldn't pass up the beautiful paint. Over the next 2 or 3 years I probably bought 5 or 6 more units off e-bay when I happened to see them. Then last year I found another lot at Hinds Figures that I liked and picked them up. Then I bought a few bags of figs from Essex to flesh the army out and finally got to painting and rebasing to finish it off a couple months ago.

That is a lot of Assyarians! Thanks for sharing

FYI as to buying armies, my SYW Russian army started as a buy from our comrade Der Alte Fritz – fantastic figs – to which I have been adding

I've played in a few of Der Alte Fritz's games over the years. I think I played Prussians against Russians once: I may have taken out some of your troops before. His stuff is very nice.

Once I get through posting my ancients I'll get to my SYW stuff one of these days. I've got really big 15mm Prussian and Austrian armies 90% done and Russians I have collected that I haven't yet touched up or rebased.
