The Rhedosaurus is the giant reptile from the movie The Beast from 20,000 Fathoms. It's a great movie from the early 1950, it is said to have been the inspiration for Godzilla.

The monster attacks ships, a lighthouse, and finally New York City. The Army is deployed and eventually science and the Army manage to kill off the invader.

This model is great so far, here is a good look at the parts. Leave a comment below and follow.

The ocean is only about 6,000 fathoms deep at the deepest, so … where did it come from?

Stryderg20 Aug 2025 8:36 p.m. PST

It had to dig through 14,000 fathoms of mud and dirt. Explains why it was so angry when it finally got to the surface. I would be more worried about where it's heading!

You are teasing us, Mike! We are chomping at the bit to see the assembled model… LOL! Cheers!

You are correct Sol, perhaps from an as yet undiscovered fissure, or thrust up from a volcanic action?

Perhaps Stryderg.

Sgt Slag, I am teasing myself, I have not even begun to put it together. I am waiting to get more supplies before I begin the job.

Thanks for reading.

Real answer— it's rather obvious that no one at the time knew how deep all of the ocean was at any point. We've learned a lot over the last 70+ years.
But in all likelihood "20,000 Fathoms" was chosen to sound like "20,000 Leagues Under the Sea"— only Verne's 20,000 leagues was supposedly the distance the Nautilus sailed through the oceans (that is, parallel to the surface, more or less), not the depth to which it descended.

Or it came through a dimensional rift at R'lyeh.

Ol' Fish-face's sunken city…

Sane person: "How about a tall, cool glass of turpentine?"

Insane person's response: "Yes, please. That would be lovely."

Sane person: "RUNNNN!!!"

Gotta love CoC RPG's humor… Cheers!
