Did the Cossack units in the Caucasus in WW1, whether mounted or rifle Brigades, wear ordinary Russian uniforms or some variation of their traditional dress? Cheers! Jae |

The Caucasian Cossacks used their own uniform, based on the national costume of the Caucasian peoples. During the war, the fighting Cossacks could replace damaged items of uniform with elements of the general army uniform, but always sought to preserve their differences from the rest of the army.

Wear the traditional dress (Cherkess, Beshmet), the Cossacks of the Kuban and Terek, whether they are in the cavalry, artillery or Plastun. Traditional dress is also worn by the Mountain Peoples Dagestani Ossetian Ingush Kabardian Kuban Cossack
