How many different gaming projects do you have in planned or already in progress that you are likely to work on in the coming year?

For me, it's a bit of a trick question, but I'll say 8.

* 1 for 28mm Sengoku Jidai: one set of terrain and figures, 3 different rules, but 1 project really for terrain and figures.
* 2.5 for 28mm Scottish Borders: one set of terrain, but three different sets of figures, two different rules (Kingdom of Northumbria and some of the Norman figures can do double duty in the later Barons' War, plus Border Reivers).
* 2 for Brooklyn, NY: one set of terrain, two different sets of figures (28mm The Warriors movie and 20mm zombies).
* call it 1 for 15mm DBA: but round up to 1.5, likely to work on any number of different armies, but all the same grand project really.
* 1 for 54mm Lunar

There's always the chance the Muse will call something else forward too, but these are the planned ones.

Oh, good question. Fortunately, not being a government I don't have a year end. But let's see:
1. the 28mm H&M individual mount project. The last limbers arrived today and are primed on one side. Two battalions of replacement infantry are on the painting table, and I have yet to order the dismounted cavalry.
2. The 6mm WWII armies are standing by for Irregular to fix damaged molds for me to boost my AT capacity.
3&4. The 28mm Fantasy and SF indoor skirmish projects are still receiving furniture and civilians.
5. The 6mm AWI project is sitting on the painting table.
6. The "Big Battle 2mm" WWII project is pending playtest and scenarios, as is
7. The 2mm ACW project.
8. 6mm DBA Big Battle Punic Wars are in line behind the AWI 6mm.
9. The GEV/OGRE forces are further back in the queue.
10. Still cranking out 30mm Napoleonics for a friend in Pendleton. Unpainted figures are probably in four digits. Might be five digits.
11. Odd 28mm figures are still being painted and boxed up for pending flea markets. No end in sight. Hoping to bring 500 to Fall In, and again to the SYWA 2026 Convention.
12. Behind all these lurk Swedish, Prussian, Austrian and Russian 6mm Napoleonics.

Shall we just call it 12? Or should I see what's still hiding in the corners?

Currently?

Wild West, with Comanche, Texas Rangers, bank robbers, Marty Robbins El Paso. (Well, that's almost 4, if you want to be picky about it.)

Pirates. Undead, un-undead, Blackbeard vs Maynard. Oh, and Moby Dick. Probably 3.

AWI, converting far too many skirmish figures to element style based. 1.

And apparently, I'm now committed to some SYW border shenanigans, with ruffians and Badmashes. Honest! Over 100 figures suddenly appeared in my lap! 🤷😄 1

So, I count 4 projects. Those addicted to counting and classifying things could come up with….9?

Imagination SYW Army – complete three or four infantry battalions, hussar regiment and dragoon regiment

Mexican Revolution – complete about five infantry battalions

WarHammer 40K – complete three or four Space Marine squads and an equal number of Guard squads (Praetorians, no less)

SYW – complete a Cossack sonita and a foot plastrum, complete a French dragoon regiment and an Austrian cuirassier regiment, flush out a few under-strength Russian battalions and complete two Prussian infantry battalions (one the famous 40th Fusiliers – who doesn't love pink small clothes)

Robert, I have a rough gaming year planning cycle that typically resets at the end of May. I attend some number of regional conventions from January through May, the grand finale being Huzzah. Convention projects stay pretty much on the front burners, others might cycle on or off the back burners as the Muse calls.

robert piepenbrink Supporting Member of TMP15 Aug 2025 4:44 p.m. PST

OFM, surely you need a Utah Johnny Montana figure? (Used to be called Utah John Cougar Montana. But that seemed pretentious.)

Titchmonster15 Aug 2025 5:18 p.m. PST

1 until it's done! Getting close.

Personal logo John the OFM Supporting Member of TMP15 Aug 2025 6:26 p.m. PST

I have a keelboat from thingsfromthebasement, but I badly need a Mike Fink. I have a few packs of Mountain Men, and Foundry Blackfoot Indians.
But I won't consider that a "new" project.

By the way…
If I have a project that I consider "back burner", that means something like "maybe in 2027".
I have the figures, and purest intentions, but…

Personal logo miniMo Supporting Member of TMP15 Aug 2025 7:55 p.m. PST

My 'maybe 2027' are what I consider "bubbling under".

I find it helps keep my productivity up to do occasional short bursts of work on various other projects instead of the big convention one.

DBA armies are ideal for this; I have around 25 or so that are very near completion, and when the urge strikes can wrap one or two up in a week or so of diversion. Or move one or two others up the production chain to join the 'very near completion' stage.

Organize and paint armies for Midguard.

PLAY more ganes

Martin Rapier15 Aug 2025 11:02 p.m. PST

Really, at this point in my gaming life I'm just filling in odd holes in the collection.

Ive got some WW2 personality figures to paint.

I need some more 2mm Pike and Shot and 7YW stuff.

I need to make some more river sections.

One day I may actually base up the cornfield matting I bought at Triples well over 15 years ago.

Ive got a 2nd hand 15mm WW1 Austrians army to sort out.

I'd like some more Roman and Greek buildings.

Otherwise I imagine I will buy and paint some more tanks and aircraft. I like painting tanks and aircraft.

I have the usual weekly and monthly gaming cycle to plan games for as well as some shows and conventions, but that is a regular thing, not new.

TMPWargamerabbit15 Aug 2025 11:20 p.m. PST

I gave up counting open projects.

I game in the following arenas of play, in no favorite order, and all have ongoing projects:

1). 1/700 naval WW2 in general on the patio. All major powers I collect models, build them, paint them, and give proper storage. Even have some Thai ships…. Typically 20-40 ships each year completed.

2). WSS in 25/28mm. Several brigades worth of battalions modelled, painted, and based each year. A brigade is 30-60 miniatures so typically paint 250+ per year.

3). FRW and Napoleonic era in 25/28mm. Like the WSS period several brigades worth of miniatures each year. Another 250+ miniatures completed each year.

4). Blood and Plunder collection. Have five major factions completed, one more to go (Dutch), plus about dozen minor factions to round out the collections in varied stages of completion. Figure 150-200 individual miniatures completed per year.

5). 25/28mm Ancients. Typically sufficient new painted miniatures for a battle using Clash of Empires (aka WAB) scenarios. Adding more every year. About 350-500 miniatures per year.

6). Flames of War using 20mm miniatures/models. Paint several "company" sized formations each year. All the European powers have collections. Finish off 250-400 soldier miniatures each year and additional 100+ vehicles.

7). Terrain…..and more terrain, typically for specific scenario design and play. Dozens of pieces….

8). Just started HALO miniatures from Mantic games. Thank the gods only a few dozen miniature required.

So….I am busy in retirement.

I'm sorry … "planned"?

ZULUPAUL Supporting Member of TMP16 Aug 2025 5:09 a.m. PST

Yes etotheipi that is a strange term to use for projects IMHO. I planned dozens in my gaming life but finished few (if one can finish anything in wargaming).
Currently working on 2 "projects" 1) Zorro skirmish game using less than 50 figures total
2) US WWII Army skirmish platoon based on Combat! TV series.
Planned.. whatever my flighty mind might latch on to!

1,after selling off my Plains wars collection, I am doing it again. I plan on gaming the Little Bighorn for it's 150th anniversary.

robert piepenbrink Supporting Member of TMP16 Aug 2025 6:41 a.m. PST

I think "planned" is allowable, though we must not overlook the concept of "targets of opportunity." I have won two battles against HMGS/TTE. If I win another, I get to attend Fall In, and I'll be very surprised if I don't come home with something not on my "planned for the next year" list. Doesn't mean I won't for the most part, work on the planned items as time and money allow.

Oberlindes Sol LIC Supporting Member of TMP16 Aug 2025 7:54 a.m. PST

I don't plan my hobbies much. What looks interesting in the lead mountain? I'll paint that next.

I'll continue my current Traveller campaign as long as my players are enjoying it, but it's not heavy on miniatures combat.

Maybe I'll run a science fiction skirmish game at a convention next year. If so, I'll most likely use existing finished miniatures and terrain.

Shagnasty Supporting Member of TMP16 Aug 2025 7:55 a.m. PST

Staying alive and functional is my priority.

Personal logo miniMo Supporting Member of TMP16 Aug 2025 10:25 a.m. PST

A plan of course may not survive contact with other available miniatures…

Grattan54 Supporting Member of TMP16 Aug 2025 10:28 a.m. PST

Just finished my Horror Old West figures. Have three projects on hold. I will likely do one or two new projects over the next year.

14Bore16 Aug 2025 11:30 a.m. PST

One track mind here, unless I do get WWII tanks. Napoleonics only

nickinsomerset16 Aug 2025 11:30 a.m. PST

Finishing off 28mm Italian Wars, finishing off Ancients (Republic Rome and enemies), finishing off 20mm Western Desert/Pacific/Eastern front, Cold War, 20mm Arnhem Buildings, 28mm Napoleonics, 25mm Retro fantasy, 28mm fantasy, starting Barons Wars and Zombies.

Tally Ho!

Personal logo etotheipi Sponsoring Member of TMP16 Aug 2025 11:54 a.m. PST

What looks interesting in the lead mountain? I'll paint that next.

My scheduling agent is also the mortal remains of past decisions. I spent a couple years buying more than I painted and didn't realize how far ahead I had gotten.

huron725 Supporting Member of TMP16 Aug 2025 4:36 p.m. PST

All AWI. Epic scale, Northstar and Fife & Drum 28mm, Triguard & Front Rank 40mm. I really like AWI.

Personal logo Old Contemptible Supporting Member of TMP16 Aug 2025 11:54 p.m. PST

Two projects currently, but that is subject to change.

1. It's the Semiquincentennial of the USA and I am planning to do as many AWI battles in chronological order as I can. Starting with Lexington and Concord. So I need Warrant British along with more militia and minutemen. All in 28mm.

2. I am contemplating jumping into the Napoleonic Peninsular War in 28mm. Contemplating I said.

What can shut these projects down is the cost of getting figures from the UK and the cost of getting stuff to and from Sri Lanka. I don't have the time to do this on my own as it would be the 300th anniversary before I finish.

Micman Supporting Member of TMP17 Aug 2025 4:27 p.m. PST

I have too many to completely list( besides I am afraid to know the number).

28mm Celts ( Told myself to finish these before starting on the EIR)
28mm ACW both sides. Working on the CSA now.
Modern naval in 1/2400
Modern combined arms.
15mm Sci Fi
28mm Space 1889
28mm Western
Oh and 28mm Christmas Rampant army I need to try to get done for December.

There is a bunch more but these are the ones I have most recently purchased figures or terrain for.

Major Mike18 Aug 2025 9:20 a.m. PST

Want to get around to playing the Solomons campaign/battles using Nimitz rules.
Want to use Rapid Fire Reloaded to do Tarawa and Iwo Jima for a Convention.
Want to run a three game set of Vietnam games for a convention (two patrols and a firebase attack)
Would like to run a local campaign game for either Napoleonics, ACW or 1941 Russia for my local gaming guys (sort of like I did during Covid)

My goal to to actually complete one or two of these.

The Last Conformist19 Aug 2025 1:08 p.m. PST

Not sure if "the coming year" means "next twelve months" or "2026"? Then again, it probably doesn't make a huge difference to the answer.

I'm definitely going to continue working on my Ancient Near East stuff.

Same with the Zone Wars stuff, but there's an outside possibility it may be done before the end of 2025.

I'll probably get back at working at the Ancient British and/or Carthaginians in the nearish future.

I might get started on a medieval project again, most likely Sicilians or Mongols.

(Everything but Zone Wars is in 15mm.)
