I confess my ignorance, and cast myself on the mercy of the assembled gamers. Charles S. Grant, in a savage and completely unprovoked attack, is permitting cavalry to dismount in his new Tabletop Teasers volume, making my 28mm mixed horse & musket army no longer fully Grant-capable. I know I can buy dismounted French dragoons, but otherwise, I can't remember the last time I saw a casting of a dismounted AOR or Napoleonic cavalryman. Can anyone recommend anyone suitable? Thanks. |

I just googled "28mm dismounted cavalry". I got Brigade Games, ETSY with variable scale, etc. |

I think Front Rank and Foundry have dismounted figures for the Seven Year War. Perry have dismounts in their AWI range. It would be nice to see more. |

You might have a chat with the fine folks at Battle Honours 3D! Their stuff is 3D printed, and they seem pretty agile as to adjusting to gamers needs. link See the elite dismounted dragoons! I got a few Spanish troops in 54mm and they were great to paint up! I'm sure they would listen to any request you may have of them! |

I believe Brigade Games do dis-mounted French dragoons and British light dragoons. |

This is where plastic "kit-like" figures become invaluable. The Perry plastic dismounted dragoons, for example, can be married up to torsos from their cuirassiers, or, with bit of work, one can create carabiniers. You just need a saw and some imagination, plus Greenstuff. Plastic RHA gunners just need a head swap to be hussars etc etc…. |

Me, Cacadoress? Very little, which is why I didn't build them when I built my Grant armies. But they could turn up useful in a skirmish game--usually fighting some sort of holding action until the infantry caught up. I even remember having had some dismounted hussars with carbines back at the Dawn of Wargaming. That said, in order to keep the larger castings from eating up storage space and budget, my standard is two horse & musket armies, individually based and capable of anything required for a Grant horse & musket scenario, with a little padding of "Blue Army" militia. Since I'm pretty well caught up in that regard (and enjoy painting the big fellows) building about 50 dismounts seems like a reasonable project. Maybe by the time they're done, Irregular's 6mm AT guns and prime movers will be back in production. I always like to have something ready to paint. |
