Joe,

Great stuff man, a helluva fight, and the rules seem to work like a champ for you.

"That is the one with the nice shrine."
Yeah it is, that thing is super cool.

"Rumors swirled that higher ups had approved the Croix de Guerre for his actions at the enemy battalion HQ but he had dismissed those which only added fuel to them."
I'm not following you here; Lt Carville was submitted for the Croix de Guerre, but what??? Who dismissed the rec, the battalion commander? And who added fuel to what? C'mon man, I'm here for the drama! ;) It seems like you're painting a picture of enmity between Lt Carville and higher HQ, but if that's true how did he get slotted for company command?

And what the hell is this:
"Hocher is quietly transferred to support company…"

picture

Maybe, and I'm just spit balling here, maybe, we have a responsibility as officers to train Hocher. Maybe we as officers have a responsibility to this country to see to it that the men and women charged with its security are trained professionals. Yes, I'm certain that I read that somewhere once. And now I'm thinking, Lt Germain, that your suggestion of transferring Hocher, while expeditious and certainly painless, might not be, in a matter of speaking, the Legion way. Hocher stays where he is. We're gonna train the lad!"

"I need to stop talking with Jack as after I do I try new things."
The feeling is mutual ;)

Jack

Jack,
Great questions as always.
1. Lt. Carville is still getting the award. Sorry to confuse you. I surmise that that particular award would have to be approved in Paris and that would take a long time in 1952. It has been approved in county, hence the rumors and they are now awaiting word back from Paris.
2. Your thinking is spot on IF we assume Sgt Hocher is not already a good leader. In April's post I stated that the legion would not promote someone to Sgt that wasn't a good leader. Hence the squad wasn't responding to him and I down graded the squad. In this last battle the squad again performed poorly and lost 2 men. Germaine and carville discussed it and decided that the squad was not responding to Hocher for whatever reason and it was getting worse. If Hocher is a poor leader you either train him up fast as you suggest or demote him and train him when you have the time. If he is a good leader then the cards are just stacked against him so you transfer him to a new environment and he should thrive.
Anyway, that was my thinking. The squad just hated him for some reason and didn't respond.
3. : )

Always enjoy our discussions

Joe,

Cool man, thanks for locking me on regarding Lt Carville's award, makes sense to me.

And sorry about the Sgt Hocher stuff, I couldn't help myself, I saw an opportunity to dip in with a quote from one of the greatest movies of all time and I had to take it ;)

Good stuff man, I hope you get back to cranking out batreps soon, I'm looking forward to more.

V/R,
Jack

Jack,
No worries. It is a great line from a great movie. My brother and I are always quoting lines from it. I enjoy our discussions because this his how units actually function.
I am trying to keep reports going! It is hard to stay focused with baseball season and life going.

Cheers

Certainly! Do your best, but I understand about real life, I've got baseball starting up again and kids are headed back to school!

But we endeavor to persevere, and I'm committed to playing when I can, about to post a batrep.

V/R,
Jack
