I am looking for STLs for 1920 period buildings. In particular, I want to do some gangster / pulp / arkham horror skirmish gaming, and need some buildings suitable for Chicago, or New England. I can find a ton of figures, but I'm struggling to find buildings. Anyone have any suggestions?

Not exactly STL files, but you can try laser cut MDF here.

Or TVAG "Mean Streets", which is paper modeling.

I don't do STL files.

If cardstock buildings will meet your need, try the Virtual Armchair General (Patrick Wilson) for his range of period Chicago cardstock buildings. He has photos of finished buildings on his web store:

I've built some of Patrick's buildings myself and can say they are great value for money. Patrick has an outstanding product, and is one of the hobby's great gentlemen.

Model railroad buildings have many examples of the architecture of the period. They are also useful up to the present day.

I can't help with stls. I was going to suggest you look at TVAG as well.

Public thanks to all those who thought to mention "Mean Streets" to Nick Bowler.

I'll be there to offer all help in keeping with my Nom de Toys, "The Wargamer's Enabler!"

There are lots and lots of STLs out there for this.

Best way I've found for hunting is just basic google image search with your keywords and "STL" to see what catches your fancy.

Here's one big set:
