Any guesses what time-periods Peter's Paperboys Saxon Skirmishers are for? They are separated into Early and Late, but I find no mention of what those refer to more specifically. link (I'd ask on their Facebook group if I was on Facebook. Hopefully someone here knows or can make an educated guess.) |

The usual split for Saxons in Britain is based on their enemies: early Saxons are for fighting Sub-Roman, Arthurian Celt warriors (so roughly 450 to 600 AD), while late Saxons are for fighting Vikings (post 796 AD). This is based solely on a general impression of how other companies split their Saxons, and I have no real knowledge of Peter's Paperboys, who might have gone for a totally different plan. Nor does it address the Saxons Charlemagne fought on the continent. Grelber |

Would the early Saxons be Pagan and the later Christian? It might make a difference in their iconography. |

Mixed bag. The smaller round shields seem to be early periods. Larger round shields and kite shields are later. So, I would say generic troops. |

Thanks everyone! There are some priests and crosses and such in the Early set as well, so it stretches past pagan era. My plan was Early to fight each other, Late to fight Vikings (and each other) and that seems to work with other guesses so far. Boring to play games without some approximate idea what time-period I am in, especially for possibly setting up historic battles. |
