OK, It was yesterday but I equate it with 18th June as an important date and meant enough to post something.

I guess my first thought is to forgive and forget and allow better relations with that island south of Key West. The USSR is long gone and the only impediment seems to be organised crime in Florida, amongst the exiles and the memory of firing squads in Havana in 1959/60. OK, Camilo Cienfuengos was also much cooler than Che, even before Ernesto G piled it it on, but that photographer missed him.

My interest is an M4A3E8 with Cuban markings which have been mocked as just copies of Air Force. This by an expert who served, but any image I see of Che et al shows that tiny white star. The rest I defy you to interpret.

Hasta La Victoria Siempre. (1960s we believed it. By 1980s we had families, busy surgical practices earning obscene income etc)

You lost me with your last two paragraphs. Are you asking a question?

No, just recalling the innocence and "idealism" of youth. Seemed like a good idea at the time

Gotcha. Our policy towards Cuba is very much a failed policy, administration after administration. We were at war with North Vietnam for 8 years, yet we now import their clothing and American expats live there.

I had the opportunity to go to Cuba 5 or 6 years ago. I didn't see any anti-American sentiment. Their monument to the USS Maine still stands. One guy I saw walking down the street in Havana was wearing a US flag t-shirt. Another guy walked up to me while I was out walking around and he asked me in English if I was an American. I told him that I was and he said that he had a cousin living in Minneapolis or some place like that. Our twenty-something your guide made a Mary Poppins reference…

No problem with Cuba if they'd figure out how to ditch their current government. Beautiful place, great cigars, and vile governance.

Cuba's policy with us is definitely a failed policy. Alienating what could have been a great trading partner, exporting violent revolution, and supporting any anti-American government they can find.

Their leadership has quieted down in recent years, but still not fit for decent company.
