Tonight at the club I ran a 3 player Team Yankee game in 6mm. Two Soviets attacking one American (me). Soviet goal was to drive over the American speed bump and reach the bridge over the river at the other end. Americans had to delay as long as possible and inflict losses.

Soviet forces were two battalions of T-64s and two companies of BMP Motor Rifle infantry. They also had sporadic artillery support (roll each turn, on a 5+ get a 2S1 battery).

Americans had two full M-113 Mech Infantry companies, reinforced by two platoons of M1A1s, plus up to two M109 batteries per turn (5 = 1 battery 6 = 2 batteries).

We played a very slightly modified version – terrain was half speed rather than the silly "cross check" and in shooting we ignored bailed out results. I'm building up to a 12 player, 20 foot table game, possibly at Autumn Wars in September.

Soviets broke through on their left, were stymied on their right and got bogged down with US infantry in the center. Loads of pics here:

The table, seen from the Soviet end (6x8 foot):

Nice, I'm not a moderns player but that looks like a good fight. I like your terrain as well.

A very attractive presentation, but I fear that your OB shortchanges the Soviet artillery. A tank regiment (minus a battalion) would have its own artillery battalion, and a pretty good chance of additional support as well. (Unless your hypothesis is major NATO success in disrupting/destroying Soviet artillery with USAF or counter-battery fire, a possibility but then again there were a lot of Soviet AD assets and moreover NATO deep-strike assets had, well, deep-strike missions. NATO players who get used to dismounting their infantry in obvious positions should be prepared to see those woodlands vaporized by 122 and 152mm…)

Did you play in inches, or convert to cm to make the play area bigger?

I always thought Team Yankee was an interesting set that would look much better in 6mm and your game confirms that in my opinion.
