I am considering doing a Napoleonic Peninsula War skirmish game with the 40mm Perry Napoleonic figures and was wondering if anyone has bought these figures and gamed with them. Since they are Perry figures, of course they look good, but nevertheless, I'd like to hear some opinions and reviews of the figures before I make the purchase decision.

Yes, I know, I often get myself into a new project by saying "it's just a skirmish game" and then it turns into a full blown project. I figured that if I used the 40mm figures that I could avoid the temptation to go whole hog as I already have a large number of Connoisseur Napoleonics that I use for larger games.

"It's just a skirmish game…". 🙄

Back in my Ancients phase, I bought 2 packs of Heritage Mauryan Indians for my Persian army. It turned into a 2500 point Indian army.
I bought a few Skythian horse archers. They morphed into a full Skythian army.
I never did play with my Persians🤷

Ditto buying "just a few Gauls" for my Carthaginian army. They ended up with 15 chariots and a massive army.
I did regularly play with my Carthaginians, though.

10 Sioux for GASLIGHT. I sold them off, then bought them back, because the Spanish Comanche wars in Mexico intrigued me. I now have over 120 mounted Plains Indians, all unique figures because that's how I planned my multi-manufacturer journey. (You would be surprised, maybe not, at how many unique figures there are out there. Some are even marketed as Comanche!) I haven't bothered to count the guts on foot. Oh, and there are also Spanish and Texas Rangers. These armies are growing like Topsie.

So, Jim. You are at least getting into this with open eyes and total self knowledge. 👍

As for a review of the 40mm Perry figures, can't help. But avoid any one piece cavalry castings, if any. I really got burned on some 28mm one piece AWI castings.

Skirmish games are like crack for wargamers like me. I know my own weaknesses. LOL.

Try doing a Google (other search engines are available) search for 40mm Perry Napoleonic Blogspot, that should give you lots to go on. Here's the first three that came up when I tried it.

I've been tempted by them, but I have managed to resist.

Having played with 40mm figures. They are really nice and a good paint job looks amazing. However, you are now committing to 40mm terrain, which is especially important for a skirmish game

So I agree. Gateway drug

As far as terrain goes, I've always treated hills and roads as "scale neutral". Dragons too, for that matter.
But buildings? Errr, no.
