A 60-foot private vessel collided with the USS Midway in San Diego on Friday afternoon, leading to the arrest of its captain for allegedly boating under the influence and fleeing the scene, according to a Harbor Police spokesperson…

The San Diego boating scene is a hot mess, at least it was back in the day. Hundreds of small boats with drunks at the helms who have no understanding of the rules of the road in the shipping channels at times. Makes for an interesting transit when you're conning a large ship which is constrained by draft. It is surprising that there is not more of this.

There surely is more of this…not reported or near miss. There seem to be endless rich people with serious boats and no brains on waters everywhere lately.

Yep!

There's a whole story here with all kinds of perspectives. Someone had their life together enough to afford a pretty nice boat, but didn't have themselves under control and now they really have some problems. Pointless, avoidable problems.

And it's the Midway. Go be an idiot somewhere else.

This is like a drunk driver of a Miata hitting a parked tractor-trailer rig. Parked. Not moving. The Midway is a museum.

Here's a video:

The boat somehow dented the hull of the Midway, causing $100,000 USD of damage.

And, to be honest, I'm glad they're on the waters and not on the roads, where they would put a lot more people at risk.
