You were asked – TMP link

What is your preferred figure scale/size for science-fiction skirmish miniature wargaming (land battles)?

55% said "28mm"
15% said "15mm"
10% said "25mm"
4% said "6mm (1:300 or 1:285 scales)"

Well that was a bit of a no-brainer wasn't it?

I don't know, Major B. When the topic says "Favorite Scale is 25mm" and the text says "28mm at 55%" I'm a bit surprised. (Happens to all of us, Bill.)

Actually, it was second place and no-shows which were interesting. I might or might not have guessed 15mm for 2nd place, but no 35mm or 54mm support at all intrigues me.

I suspect 28mm is including "heroic 28mm" and what we are now calling 32mm

Skirmish games generally not just SF seem to lean towards 28mm-better for depicting characters.
Large Skirmish, not so much.

Good point, forrester. I was thinking what we probably had were guys with 25's and 28's but no 32's, and guys with 28's and 32's but no 25's. But 35's are just flat too big to mix with 28's and ought to have shown up.

Hedge that. You could certainly buy 35mm Wookiees. But you can't pass a 35mm and a 28mm off as healthy adult fighting men of the same species. Either the 28mm can't make the recruitment height, or the 35mm won't fit through the vehicle hatch.

That said, some of the dealers on Etsy won't sell me anything under a 35mm "Star Wars Legion" scale. And I think "Shatterpoint" is supposed to be 40mm. (Surely the Wrath of Disney would smite any wargamer playing Shatterpoint with Legion scale figures?)

Downside of 28mm skirmish regardless of genre is the size and cost of terrain needed. 15mm buildings are a fraction the cost of its 28mm counterpart, plus a fraction of the size.

Still, 28mm is my favorite skirmish scale. I just don't have any.

Also the poll was for 'preferred scale'.

My vote for preferred was 54mm.

My favourite might be 15mm (which I've never owned) to match the Azhanti High Lightning deck plans.
