I've been surprised not to see any mention these past few days of the 20025 Historicon. The guys I know who went had a great time. From the few pictures they have sent, the Battle of San Juan was the standout game for eye candy along with a Hannibal versus Rome with 54mm figures and interior scenes of a Roman villa. |

There has been a relative stampede of YouTube videos on the con from Bill's Wargame World. Go to YouTube and Search "Historicon." Technology marches on. I'm still waiting for the 3D printer with multiple cartridge colors that sidestep the need for painting. |

I had a great time. And there were games whose impressive terrain and figures inspire me. |

Though lost all three games, but would say my commands did well, 2 of my games comrades got hit hard and literally ran away. Don't think ever had that happen players had things not go their way so walked away. |

Alte Fritz's Hannibal game was amazing to see. I got a chance to check it out at Little Wars. |

All in all a really excellent convention experience. Thoughts in no particular order of importance. 1. This was definitely my best con ever in terms of allies and opponents. Everyone was not just pleasant, but also gracious and sociable. And clean.
2. The convention staff and volunteers as usual deserve kudos for keeping everything running smoothly. I heard the relocation of Wally's was a bit of a last minute thing, which I never would have guessed. Incidentally, the Freedom Hall is a much superior location, IMHO.
3. Speaking of which, my Wally's sessions were great and almost cleared me out. Saturday afternoon (usually pretty dead) was hoppin'! I wonder of this is partly due to the shorter session length, and the elimination of the Friday afternoon slot? Anyway, I made enough to justify some purchases in the dealer area in addition to covering my expenses.
4. The number of visually impressive games continues to grow. Besides the massive "spectaculars", there were so many that were absolutely lovely to look at it. I would even say they are the large majority of H'con events now.
5. There was a very positive vibe and I think this was the first con that I didn't hear anyone kvetching about the location. I think people are finally starting to settle in, and if there were more hotel rooms available for attendees the site would be more fully embraced.

Thanks for all the replies. Sounds like it was a great con once again. |

I didn't include this is my own review: I brought a pair of the kiddos with me, aged 13 and 9. They wanted to try the in-house chicken strips; reluctantly, I agreed, knowing we were within a hundred yards of likely better options. I got the pretzel bites with the cheese sauce. Everything was dry as a bone. I think if you tried to choke a person with an innocuous food product, the pretzel bites fit the bill. They were soft, chewy and seemed to expand in your throat as if to fit the space. After a warning, I shared with a neighbor at our table, and he agreed. I'm an unrepentant sucker for trash food, but these actually went in the trash. Later, I got a sandwich at one of the delis in the Market, and it was probably the best I'd had in many years. |

On Friday I was starving having not eaten all day so I bought a Kit Kat bar for $4.00 USD. Yikes!!!!!!!!!! One of the best places to get food is the French Bakery which is just half a block down the street. I'd get fresh croissants in the morning and they had great sandwiches on bagettes that were nice and fresh. BTW, their pastries were to die for. |
