Hi all,

I'm looking for a guide or advice on uniforms worn by U.S sailors during the Mexican American War. Were they similar to the uniform worn during the Civil War?

Any advice would be appreciated. Many thanks.

Basically, blue when it's cold. White when it's hot.

The old Time-Life book series The Old West had a title called The Mexican War. One of the photos showed an American sailor dressed in his hot weather "whites". It was toward the back of the book.

This website has a few pages of useful photos and information about the U.S. Navy during the war:

The Second Seminole War (1835-42) saw the Navy involved in several amphibious operations. Their combat dress was practically the same as it appeared in Mexico and California:

The following is a link to a Facebook page that shows a short video about the U.S.-Mexican War. Pay close attention to the frames which show, in detail, American sailors in action:

Good luck on your research, Thunderchicken!
