"Main Forum Maintenance" Topic

As of yesterday, we're doing some maintenance on the forum.

The goal is to speed up things, so that it will be easy again to post new topics, with no time-outs or hang-ups.

However, there is a temporary side effect. At the moment, if you happen to post at the exact time that we're taxing the system, there's a chance that an unrelated (much, much older) topic title will overwrite your topic title.

A rather exotic bug, actually.

One of several things we're doing is to delete topics which are no longer needed. Please be assured we are not tossing out anything important. But topics like "Edward, please call me" or "Are you going to Gen Con 2005?" no longer have any value. Also, sadly, topics with links that are no longer valid.

If you see a topic that you think should be culled from the herd, please use the ! button to let us know.

Is there a specific time when this happens? If there were, it would be easy to avoid any problems… for example… right now, you can't post ("Time Out") and the thread title doesn't match between the Front Page and the Forum…

So… are you taxing right now…?

There is no set time. And when it happens, it is only for a few seconds.

next_id

(or whatever var for the post size count) dynamically?
