…Illegal Now

"The only constant thing in this universe is change. That's something Greek philosopher Heraclitus said ages ago, and since then a lot—a lot—has changed.

So, it's only normal for subject legality to be affected by this as well. Well, that, and everything that it is subject to. Mostly ethics, morality, and not losing your head because child labor laws were not a thing back in the olden days…."

On the topic of things that used to legal, cannabis cigarettes for headaches were legal in the US until the 1930's – I see they have made a comeback!

Very large money, bills like $10,000 USD notes.
Private citizens owning gold used to be legal, then illegal and now legal again.
Riding in the back of a pick up truck without seat belts or helmets.
Burning leaf fires in your yard without a permit.

No seat belts inside a car. I had bench seats so my girlfriend could seat beside me. Mother called them supped up cars because it took two to drive one.

Until the National Firearms Act of 1932-1933, the Thompson Sub-Machine gun was legal for over the counter purchase at Sears and Roebuck, for the whopping price of approx. $110.00 USD….

Slavery
Polygamy
Booze (it was, then it wasn't, now it is again)
Abortion (It wasn't, then it was, now it's a jump ball)
As observed, Child Labor. (It was, then it wasn't. Now it looks like it might be making a comeback)
Prostitution
Public drunkenness
Capital punishment
Fan interference
Non-lethal community self help law enforcement. (I do miss the reassuring smell of hot tar, used with feathers and a long stout board)
Cosanguinous marriage
Bear baiting

It depends what and where.
In the "west" (that is the formerly white minority of the world) freedoms are everywhere actively curtailed.
I remember studying the years around 1900 in Uni,(40 years ago!) and was astonished at the low taxes, low degree of control, low number of state employees and full freedoms of speech and movements. But you needed good teeth for example.

Exeter: Cosanguinous marriage/ polygamy; well, by far not everywhere.

It was still legal to drink while driving in Texas until some time in the later 1980s. It was only illegal to be DRUNK while doing so.

So naturally a cop who saw someone drinking while operating a vehicle might decide to pull it over and make a check. Or not. It would depend on the cop's mood and if he recognized the vehicle/driver.
