Did the TC act as gunner or loader?
I always understood it to be gunner, but when watching a video recently, I thought The Chieftain said it was the loader (for early T-34 anyway)

Depends on the tank. French tanks had a small turret, so they could only fit one man. The Cdr had to load and fire. So yes the tc loaded and fired.

The layout in two man turrets varied too.
