The cutting mat is an essential tool for model building. It keeps the table top or desk top mostly free from paint droppings and knife marks. Mostly. link I like to have a large mat on my desk and then one or two smaller mats on top of it. The smaller, and less expensive mats then get most of the damage and preserve the larger mat. Note that small cutting mats are available at Dollar Tree. There's a small green one, and a thin blue one. I find that inexpensive cutting boards are also useful. |

I hadn't thought of covering the table with a big cutting mat. I'll look into that. I have a few small cutting mats and plastic boards, some from a Japanese dollar store ("100 yen store", either Daiso or Ichiban Kan) and some from a free box of Warhammer stuff off Craigslist years ago. Cutting boards are very useful, especially for cutting things off sprues (my first use of a cutting board in the hobby). |

I picked up two of the small cutting mats after reading your article about them, Bill. I like to clean up figures in the hotel at night while travelling, and they are useful for that. Grelber |

Yes, Dear Editor that is true. Dollar Tree gets a lot of my dollars for such things. Sol, happy to be of service with a good idea now and again. Grlber, thanks, I used to do that when I sometimes had to travel too. Bunkermeister |

I covered my desk in one sheet of glass. When I get paint or whatever on it, I just take a razor blade scraper and scrape it off. Comes off easy and/or use glass cleaner. Been using glass since the 90s and never had an issue. Works great. |
