Very nice indeed.

The bugler would normally be on the gray for ID purposes, but not always.

Best wishes,

Chris

I kind of remember reading, a long time ago, that US practice was to have all of the same color horses in the same troop. Then the last troop was called the rainbow troop as they got all of the leftovers.
Maybe it was during the "Custer" period…

The British had the same policy regarding horse colors.
It worked well in peacetime. But as soon as the unit was deployed, and remounts were needed, that became less important.

Very nice, by the way.

Nicely done, OP.

Horse color by troop was a pretty and post war convention -- the demand for horse was too high during the war. You will see the occasional memoir or comment about attempts of this or that unit trying to keep troop colors the same.

Very nice! Various horse colours means they have seen the elephant

Damn auto correct. *Pre and post war*

Thanks for your comments!

I want to use my Civil War project to create as many different horse colors as possible. It's a nice change from my millions of Napoleonic bay horses.
