Down some dirt track in Normandy, moving towards the front, a Troop of Churchill AVREs from the 5th Assault Regiment RE, British 79th Armoured Division.

For those in the know – I got within one digit on those little blue Arms of Service numbers (w/multipart decals).

BUT WAIT, THERE'S MORE >>>>>>>>

Ever since the War, we've read that the Churchill AVRE fired [launched] a 290mm mortar bomb – how wrong that's been -

The loading was through a modified hull hatch, where the crewman barely exposed his arm in the process -

Very calm and complete explanation. Thanks!

I didn't want any Churchill AVREs until now. Thanks a lot, dude.

YA, use 'em or lose 'em. :)

Seriously though, I'd avoided collecting NW Europe Brits, but saw Hobart's 'Hobos' as a small way to get into some scenarios.

Btw, I just ordered – The Churchill Crocodile: 141 Regiment RAC (The Buffs), by Saunders & Hone.

Many of the British combat diaries are online for these units, with some daily reports actually including OP MAPS (for direct scenario construction/use)!

Good stuff, you're cranking them out! So, when is D-Day for your 1/144 assault on Normandy?

V/R,
Jack

Jack, thanks for checking these out.

The game with these is two weeks away, at the monthly, main-dudes gathering I call Epic Battlefields, and then if all goes well (or with minor tweaks), it'll be played again at our Big Muddy Group's multigame event in August.

The action is inspired by a fight at the town of La Senaudiere, on 14 June, 1944. (the vehicle roster has been beefed up a bit, to give the action some additional "grist").

Those are great looking Churchill AVRE's, FlyXwire.

Pete, thanks for that!

A little tease of the area of operation -

Grenadiers of Panzer Lehr hold the area – but will they be ready for the coming storm?
