I've fortunately come into possession of two uniform plates (French drummer and Red Lancers of the French Guard) done by Beaugard. I was hoping someone on this site would know of him and could give me more background on the artist. Thanks in advance! link |

Artist would appear to be: J B Beaugard also known as Thil. There doesn't appear to be much out there. link Translated this says: "J. B. Beaugard called Thil (active in the years 1822 – 1828) – French painter and lithographer, was a student of Anne-Louis Girodet-Trioson and modeled his teacher in painting classicist, academic portraits and historical compositions. In the years 1822-1827 he took part in the official Paris Salons – the attention of critics was already drawn to his first paintings showing Tobias setting out on a journey, as well as Amazila and Telasco. He was a lithographer, repeating the compositions of his master Girodet-Trioson and other artists in this technique. He was also the author of numerous watercolours depicting studies of uniforms of soldiers of various formations of Napoleon's army." |

Thanks! That is very helpful. That dates the plates much earlier than I thought, which was the end of the 1800s. |
