"The aim of Operation BREVITY was to secure a start line along the Egyptian/Libyan border for Operation BATTLEAXE. It is rather ironic that the operation was called off after only one day when it was found that the German forces in the area were stronger than anticipated. The British split into three groups, a coastal group, 22nd Guards Brigade group and 7th Armoured Brigade group. The battlefield was split by the coastal escarpment, traversed by HALFAYA PASS to the south of SOLLUM, then more or less flat inland with the exception of HAFIA RIDGE and POINTS 206 and 208…"
